Caula Counselor, LLC

Counseling for meaningful, lasting change.

You do not have to spend years in therapy to begin feeling different.

Sometimes you have already done the hard part. You have read the books, listened to the podcasts, talked through your past, and understand why you feel the way you do. But despite all of that insight, your body still reacts. The anxiety is still there. The relationship patterns still repeat. The trauma still feels close. That is where our work begins.

Therapy should move.
You deserve to notice progress.
You may be here because

You understand the pattern, but you still feel caught inside it.

Anxiety feels like it is running your life, even when you know what should help.
You have talked about your trauma, but your body still reacts as if it is happening now.
Your relationships keep returning to the same painful patterns.
You know what you want to change, but insight alone has not created lasting movement.
You feel disconnected from yourself, uncertain about who you are, or unsure what comes next.
You are exhausted from approaches that have felt too surface level.
A different philosophy of care

Therapy should move.

You deserve to notice progress, not only understand why you are hurting.

Care designed around the whole person.

Whether you are working to calm your nervous system, process unresolved experiences, strengthen relationships, or build a more meaningful future, our work should continue moving forward, one session at a time.

Change may look different for every person. It can mean feeling safer in your body, responding differently to a trigger, setting a boundary, understanding yourself more clearly, or creating a life that feels increasingly authentic and purposeful.

My approach

Insight matters. Your nervous system matters too.

Care is personalized, person-centered, and informed by your goals, history, strengths, and readiness for change.

01

Understand what is happening

We begin with a thoughtful intake process that helps identify the patterns beneath your symptoms, relationships, identity concerns, and current stressors.

02

Address what keeps repeating

When clinically appropriate, Havening Techniques, clinical hypnosis, muscle testing, and other mind-body approaches may be integrated alongside traditional counseling.

03

Build what comes next

As distress becomes more manageable, therapy can focus on integration, relationships, self-efficacy, identity, meaning, and the life you want to create.

Specialty focus

Brief, focused work with room for deeper care.

My specialty is integrating Havening Techniques and clinical hypnosis with person-centered, solution-focused counseling. The intention is not to rush your story or promise a fixed result. It is to use each session purposefully and help you recognize meaningful movement whenever possible.

For you, early sessions may focus on reducing the intensity connected to traumatic or distressing experiences. Later work may use hypnosis and traditional counseling to reinforce new patterns, deepen insight, and support forward movement.

Important: Your treatment plan will be individualized. No method is right for everyone, and the number or type of sessions cannot be guaranteed in advance.

A little about me

Insight explains the pattern. Deeper work helps change it.

My work is grounded in a question that has followed me across psychology, counseling, technology, research, and mind-body approaches: why can someone understand their patterns completely and still feel unable to change them? I am especially drawn to working with you when you have gained insight, tried traditional approaches, and still feel frustrated because something deeper remains unresolved.

My style is warm, direct, curious, and deeply person-centered. I look beyond symptoms alone to understand how the nervous system, subconscious patterns, trauma, relationships, identity, values, and lived experience may be working together. I believe meaningful change happens when care honors your whole experience—and when you are given both the safety and the tools to move from surviving, overthinking, or feeling stuck toward greater freedom and alignment.

Training under a leader in clinical hypnosis

An unusually immersive clinical education.

I completed my graduate clinical internship and apprenticeship under the direct supervision of Dr. G. Fredric Mau and was professionally trained and certified in clinical hypnosis through his Professional Hypnosis Certification training. That experience gave me close exposure to advanced, brief, and emotionally focused clinical work—not simply classroom instruction.

Internationally recognized educatorKeynote speaker and professional trainer across the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Germany.
Medical education experienceFormer core faculty member in a graduate medical education psychiatry residency program, teaching hypnosis and psychotherapy to physicians.
Published medical contributorContributor to the fifth edition of Essential Psychopathology & Its Treatment, published by W. W. Norton & Company.
Award-winning author & researcherAuthor of three award-winning books, peer reviewer for the British Medical Journal, and investigator in interdisciplinary pain research.
How this apprenticeship shaped the care I provide It strengthened my foundation in Ericksonian hypnosis, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, trauma-responsive care, functional neurological symptoms, pain-related concerns, and the pursuit of meaningful change beyond symptom management alone. For you, that means I can draw from a broader range of approaches while keeping your goals, comfort, and individual needs at the center.
Why I believe therapy should move

Transformation is freedom.

I believe insight matters. I believe your nervous system matters. I believe lasting change often involves helping your thoughts, emotions, body, behavior, relationships, and sense of self begin moving in a healthier direction. Most importantly, I believe you deserve the opportunity to notice progress.

Research-informed care

Identity can change the treatment pathway.

My doctoral research in Health Science explores how identity misalignment and identity diffusion may influence intake, treatment planning, and clinical outcomes. This matters because you may not simply need to “change your behavior.” You may need support understanding whether you are living out of alignment with who you already are or still building a more stable sense of self.

Why I started this podcast: Therapy is not the only place where healing begins. Sometimes it starts with one honest conversation, one new perspective, or one moment that helps you understand yourself differently. My hope is that every episode leaves you feeling a little more informed, a little more hopeful, and a little less alone.
