Electronic Communications Notice
Electronic communication is convenient, but ordinary email, text messaging, website contact methods, voicemail, and consumer communication platforms may not be completely secure or private.
Permitted Uses
Electronic communications should be limited to general questions, consultation requests, scheduling, billing, resource access, and other routine administrative matters.
Information You Should Not Send
Emergencies and Urgent Needs
Electronic messages are not continuously monitored and should never be used for emergencies, crisis intervention, or time-sensitive safety concerns. If you are experiencing an immediate emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In the United States, you may also call or text 988 when appropriate.
Response Times
Messages are generally reviewed during normal business hours. A response is not guaranteed within a particular timeframe. Technical problems, filtering, delivery failures, travel, illness, holidays, or other circumstances may delay or prevent receipt or response.
Confidentiality Limitations
Although reasonable care may be used, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed when information is transmitted through ordinary electronic systems. Messages may be misdirected, intercepted, stored by third-party providers, accessed on shared devices, forwarded, copied, or retained in backups.
No Counseling Relationship
Sending a message, requesting a consultation, or receiving an administrative response does not establish a therapist–client relationship. A counseling relationship begins only after appropriate screening, mutual agreement, required documentation, and informed consent.
Consent to Electronic Communication
By choosing to communicate electronically, you acknowledge the potential privacy limitations and accept those risks for non-confidential administrative communication. You may request another communication method, although no method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Third-Party Platforms
Future scheduling, payment, group-registration, telehealth, or client-portal services may be provided by third parties under their own terms and privacy practices. Access credentials and private meeting links should not be shared with others.
Accidental Disclosure
If you believe you sent sensitive information to the wrong address or through an unintended method, contact the practice as soon as reasonably possible without repeating the sensitive information in a new unsecured message.
